Questions:
1. What can you deduce bout the setting (and
specifically the house from the mise -en-scene)
Looking at the setting and where the house is
located, we are shown that they are a typical middle class family. However
there is a sight twist in the way the teenagers behave, by growing up with a
good family orientated home you would think that they are well behaved. In the
first shot we have a male character placed at the center of the screen this
symbolises he will be a main character in the episode. As the camera slowly
tracks backwards revealing him in the bed we are exposed to nudity straight
away the headless pictures of the naked man and women shows that he has and
interest in sexual activity, this is something that his mother would not be very
proud of exceeding the fact that he has the authority in his bedroom. The
character seems to follow a routine every morning as we see in one shot he
looks at his watch so he knows exactly what happens at what time, also the
mise-en-scene of his room is unusually neat and tidy. This could represent him
as being a clean boy and could also relate to him being brought up in a very
well manner. His clothes are neatly folded in his draw however, we see a shift
when the sister enters the seen wearing provocative clothing, this almost
changes the perception we have on middle class families as we see the daughter
coming back in the morning with smudged make-up suggesting she was partying
heavily all night without her parents consents and knowledge since she uses her
brother as a distraction so that she could sneak in from a late night. She quickly
then changes into her school uniform to get ready to sit at the breakfast table
as a normal middle class family would do, the lighting in the room while the
daughter is getting changed is very dark and almost potrays a sexual image of
her exposing her skin, the dark light suggests that what she is doing is bad
and not normal behviour. The Dad enters the scene shouting at Tony to turn the
loud music off, he swears quite a lot and is only walking around in his shorts
revealing is bottom. The constant shouting and swearing at his children shows
that they are at each others throats all the time, this could be because the
father is gets annoyed that he is constantly being ingnored which shows that
he has no control over his children. He proves his authority over children by
shouting. When we see the Dad again later again in the kitchen there is a low
angle shot of the Dad with the son in the foreground showing the fact that he is the
more dominant figure although, if we didn’t see the scene before we would of
thought this, but we know the son like to lay games with his dad and wins as we
see the Dad getting agitated, this could be the reason why the son is in the
foreground. The first shot we see of the mum she is placed in the kitchen
